I spent some time in the trenches figuring these questions out. Afterwards, I decided to compare Manchester satellite TV systems and cable on the following key factors:

-	Price
-	Options

Several months ago, I was in the same situation as you. I was really struggling over this topic and trying to find the best information to make an informed decision. In reality, there are only three choices: Dish Network vs. Direct TV vs. Cable. I really didn’t know where to begin. So I started by asking this question:

What’s the best cable company and best satellite TV system?

Then I began an in-depth research project to determine which was the top Cable and Sat TV company. I searched on 40+ different websites trying to figure out what the best deals and specials were. Then I had to figure out what were the opinions of all the providers that existed.

After reading posts, satellite TV forums, etc., I was getting nowhere quick. Both Dish Network and DirecTV got very positive reviews, while the cable companies received average reviews for the most part.

Then I finally found the answers I was seeking. A cable and satellite TV review of all the major players. This was exactly what I wanted to know. Not just a bunch of random opinions found on forums, but an independent professional satisfacation survey by JD Power that polled 17,033 homes in the United States. The satisfacation survey results gave the answer I was seeking.

Direct TV and Dish Network consistently had the best satisfaction of all of the cable and satellite companies. However, Direct TV was slightly ahead in consumer satisfaction across the board, but almost a dead heat between DirecTV and Dish Network. Wow is the only cable company to beat out both Direct TV and Dish Network in any of the regions, the North Central.

Since satisfaction for both Satellite companies were far above all of the cable companies, these were the best options for me. So now I had to narrow it down between Dish Network and DirecTV. I reviewed the price and across the board Dish Network costs LESS. The only major difference between the two packages is that Direct TV has the NFL Sunday Ticket.

DirecTV and Dish Network both have a lot more channels in digital than cable, which is becoming more and more important as we get more HD TVs and more HD Channels. Plus, there was legislation requiring digital broadcasts by January 1st 2009.

BOTTOM LINE:
The customer satisfaction slightly favors Direct TV but I would decide between the NFL Sunday Ticket and Price. Both are cheaper than cable and have more digital TV channels.

      - DirecTV has the NFL Sunday Ticket. If that’s important and it’s worth the
           extra $10 a month or so, then go for it. Plus, as an added bonus, a little better
            service.
      - Dish Network is cheaper than Direct TV and cable. So if Price is key, then
            Dish Network is the right choice.
